I too was looking at the Spine3d people and started a thread a while back asking if anybody had them so that they can let me know how nice they are but nobody answered. So I didn't get them, instead I got a couple of different people libraries from Dosch Design and I'm really happy with them. Superb quality, good white balance, nice alphas... relatively good price.

I think we get the most use out of Epictor and Vyonx here, though bang for buck go to Got3d. Though they have a lot of images that are in direct sun which makes comping on some scenes impossible.

As for 3d or 2s, it will be a long time before I use 3d again. I used them a lot for awhile, but I got really tired of the limited selection, and the polygony look.

We are billboarding most stuff now as it is the quickest way for compositing, and offers a fair amount of flexibility.

As for Spline3d's collection. I haven't used them, but they would work well for close up shots or condo shots. I would probably avoid them if you are looking to do action shots of larger spaces as they are stiff looking, like most green screen people are. I think most of the other collections were shot on the street without people knowing, so their body movements are more natural.

Maybe we should make our own collection. Everyone that wants to participate cuts out 10 high quality people from shots they have taken, and then we distribute to the group that participated. I would rather keep the group small amongst the regulars and frequent posters here so they don't turn up on a torrent feed the next day.

Be careful! If you don't get the person in the photo's permission to use their image you could get sued. Check out Nick's post here - http://forums.cgarchitect.com/37331-new-entourage-website-2d-people-skies-epictor.html#post260093

the dosch ppl are nice devin.. and if you buy using trinity3d, you could get them 10 dollars cheaper, and they have very nice customer service, trinitry3d that is. I needed a particular set of ppl inmediately so I called trinity and the kind lady worked with me all day to try to get the dosh crew (who r based in Germany I believe) to send me digital copy of the set right away.

I add my ppl in post

Thanks for the responses guy's, I like the epictor people the most so I'll probably pick some of them up but the Dosch people aren't bad either. When you use these 2d people do you add them to your 3D scene or add them in post?

I add them in post, but I might do a dummy render, with some 6'0" boxes for height and scale reference...

I added them purely in Photoshop for awhile, but now I do a combination, and it has greatly increased my productivity when it comes to people. Because I start compositing them vary early in a project I am constantly getting a sense of the scale and feel of the place.

I do typically on place background people in the actual render, though sometimes I place foreground also. The attached image show background people rendered into the image. I will then take this raw plate in Photoshop, do the necessary curves and levels and over painting to get the feel I want, then comp the background and comp foreground people.

In the end I guess it is up to the individual artist. But I just feel doing some of this in the raw render has good speed implications.

if you need more, this library has a pregnant woman, also a lot of great stroller and parent/child people. Only downside is they are all sunlit so it takes a bit of post to use them well indoors.

This is obviously a bit of a plug, but as an active member here I would also suggest checking out some of the libraries for sale on my site, easy3dsource.com. The current libraries I have available have a lot of variety and are shot at high resolution. I'm also looking to release another set of textures soon that are even higher resolution as well. I would also argue that in terms of "bang for buck" the textures I offer are very well priced for the quality.

While we're on the topic of textures, I'd love to know everyone's opinion on what textures they feel are most useful in their day to day work; rather than taking a shot in the dark at developing new products, it would be great to know if there's something in particular that the community feels is lacking.

Texture libraries have never been that helpful to me because they almost never look right strait out of the box and require a lot of tweaking. Many times they have very high settings which might make them look good but are very slow to render, or they just tile badly and aren't much use. I think the most useful texture libraries would be procedural with a lot of detail, I've never seen one like that so I'd start there.

I'm really surprised after all these years there isn't a more realistic 3D option for people, we've got pretty much ever aspect of rendering nailed down from grass, trees and plants to cars but people seem to be that last piece of the puzzle that no one can figure out.
