jobwallis
Hi I have loaded around 30 IGS files from Gehry Technologies Digital Project into 3ds Max. They load in as Nurbs which i collapse to editable mesh. But the two largest files approx 7 meg load but crash max when i collapse them to a mesh. They need to be a mesh to export out to another system eventually and i dont trust NURBS in max. My question is I have a friend with a copy of Solid Works which im sure would read the IGS files but am wondering if this could export as a mesh via DXF or 3DS or another format? Is this the best workflow to get a mesh into my file? thanks
MegaPixel
Around 5 years back, my method for getting SolidWorks content to 3ds MAX was to export to the Stereolithography format (.STL) which seemed to work the best out of all the other options at the time. It will import as a mesh that should be reasonably easy to manage.
alrawli
A good way i found was to use Rhino, the 30 save trial is great for importing step/iges/stl from solidworks and does a decent job of converting them to polys and then allows you to export asobj or 3ds. Tommy L
Polytrans. Just bite the bullet and drop some cash on it. You'll be able to accept jobs in the future with confidence that the mesh import is possible.
JonRashid
My vote goes to polytrans it will save you time in the long run and you may well be surprised at how many times you turn to it over the years
