creating & hosting web sites

Hi everyone. I did a search on this and didn't come up with much so I am hoping someone here could steer me in the right direction. I have most of my portfolio ready but I am bewildered at the amount of web site hosting out there. I don't mind paying if the site can be ad/banner free but not sure who to trust. I have absolutely NO experience in web design so hosts with page designs built into them are preferred. I have seen some great 3d artists sites so I kinda know what I want but just kinda stuck right now. If anyone knows of a great host, I would appreciate the link. Also, what do you guys think a good website should look like?

Hey David. I've used inmontion for about 2 years now and am happy with their service. Servers have been pretty stable and they offer all the standard usual amenities that pretty much every hosting company offers now. About how the website should look?...I think it should first and foremost be clear and to the point, easy to navigate, and of course attractive.

Plan on buying a domain, which is roughly $20 a year. Plan on buying hosting, which is $60-$120 a year. Then use a Wordpress portfolio style template, which will be extremly easy to get up and running with.

 

Also, if your host has the Fantastico script installed, then Wordpress is crazy easy to get up and running.

 

I use LunarPages for hosting, but I have used them for awhile (8 years or so,) you will find cheaper alternatives, but I think Lunar is a decent deal with solid up time, and few limits on data.
