alfa smyrna
Dear friends, I want to upgrade my videocard. Currently I am using Nvidia 8800 GT. My choices are below. One of the card has price almost 3X the other one. (with VAT etc) These are the prices in my country and I can't afford any higher one. I wonder does it really make so much difference in persformance and does it worth? What would you advise me? Quadro FX 580 512MB GDDR3 $ 248 Quadro FX 1800 768MB GDDR3 $ 625 I also encounter this one Quadro FX 600 which has greater memory but much cheaper than the other ones. What disadvantage does it have? Quadro FX 600 1GB - GDDR3 $ 233 Thank you everyone.
AJLynn
The 580 is the previous generation low end. The 600 is the current low end. Neither is very good, they'd be minor upgrades at best for you. The 1800 would be the way to go if you can't afford a 4000. Now I'm not sure about your market, because in the US a Quadro 1800 is $400-450, so see if you can't shop around.

AJLynn
I should qualify that by saying that the 1800 is a previous generation and I would only recommend it if: 1. You must have a Quadro (as opposed to a Radeon, Geforce or FireGL, all of which may give you more value), and 2. Your budget is tightly constrained. Jason Matthews
I have a Quadro 1800 in my machine and a coworker has the 580 in his. His system is terrible in terms of graphics. That said, I cannot recommend the 1800 simply because the price IMO is too steep for what the card can do. I would argue that there has got to be a better card out there for that price point. I understand that it is a professional card but the performance is lacking. Again, my opinion - not statistical data. BTW I am using CAD, Revit, Sketchup, Max, and PS. xaoo
@pixela have you considered Quadro 2000? It is better the cheapest Quadro 600 and ofers better performance than FX 1800. Price is around 599USD. Regards, xaoo

When GPU renderers are more improved, I plan to upgrade to a videocard that can make fast gpu renders. For now, I think is better to wait.
AJLynn
Don't waste your money on a Quadro 2000. It's a Quadro'ed version of an underclocked Geforce 450 with 1GB. It's only a midrange card at running viewports, and it's very weak at CUDA.
xaoo
@pixela - good decision. Wait and see the prices should get low. In terms of rendering and CUDA power you would be better with 2 regular GeForces'. @AJLynn - I would not buy it for rendering, but what about work in 3ds max and rendering everything using CPU. Would Quadro 2000 be worth considering? Regards, xaoo
AJLynn
At $599, I wouldn't buy it. I'd go a bit higher and get a FirePro v7800 or save money and get something less expensive.
Slinger
I would agree with Andrew's recommendations. At this point, I really think ALL Quadro cards are not worth it. You can get way better bang for your buck with the ATI FirePro line or going with nvidias Geforce line.
