Crazy Homeless Guy
Maybe others already found this... I haven't updated my IES viewer in awhile so I wanted to check and see if there was a new version out, and I found this, complete with a MaxScript. This is a lot more functional for me than the previous way I was doing thing. Now I create a Photometric light, click the script, and it launches IES Viewer. I can then browse through my IES's, hit test render, check the light distribution, and then double click and it automatically assigns it to the photometric I just created. Crazy easy compared to launching the viewer separately, copy and pasting file names, etc... http://www.photometricviewer.com/1_4_Download.html
Koper
nice, great find!! will help me aloot! Travis, what is you're view on the Vray IES light object? Last week I have finished converting the whole erco 3d catalogue to the vray ies format as photometric lights only crashes my max 2010.
Crazy Homeless Guy
It depends on the situation for me. I prefer Vray IES for speed, but they lack some of the thngs that the Max IES has. Such as.. 1) Vray IES does not preview the shape of the IES file. 2) Vray IES you can not adjust the dimensions of the area shadow. 3) Vray IES you can not have it not effect specular. 4) Vray IES is not as robust on the light type rollout. Presets besides color and temperature. So, if none of those things matter, I go Vray IES because they are fast. If they matter I go the slower Max IES.
