renato
Hi: Is lightwave accurate for arch models?. I usually draw architectural floorplans in autocad, the I import this drawings into max, which gives me the perfect template, I just extrude my imported polylines to get a solid wall with the exact autocad measures. That seems to be hard in LW. Anybody has tried to work in Lightwave tis way?, any suggestions? thanx in advance
ingemar
I'm not doing it often but try saving out as dxf v.12 and open it in modeller. You can also give the polylines some height i AutoCad and export as 3ds and open that in modeller. Jure
I always export AutoCAD drawings as v12 .dxf and then import that into LW. Then I extrude those lines to get perfectly accurate model. It just need some cleaning up later because 2 point polys extrude into double sided polygons.
renato
Thanx guys, I've got the point. It could be useful to "clean" my autocad drawing first, leaving just the basic stuff I need to make an accurate model, maybe just the contours, then export this lines and adding details directly in LW
Jure
Yes exactly. Prepare everything you can in AutoCAD first, it will save you a lot of time later on...
sonny
try exporting the dwg. as illustrator file into modeller and no need to clean up double sided polys. I hope this would be of help.
Limbus
If you export as 3ds make sure to grab this plug: http://www.flay.com/GetDetail.cfm?ID=1394 It converts tris to quads. Florian
MetaHumanitY
It really depends on what You do. I usually loft everything from imported dxf lines without problems. Search Flay.com for Snap and align plugins and You´re halfway there. Lightwave can be used to model with high accuracy and numerical inputs.
