3dvizual
Hi I am new to max and vray and would like to know the best way to place 2d people in my renders. I am about to do a job with at gallery along the shore and, there has to be a lot of people in the picture. I don't know if I should buy the rpc collection, or do it some other way.? Easier or cheaper way.?
CliveG
I'm certainly not the one to answer one way or the other, but would point out that a search through the old threads here will net you a hundred opinions on this, of which the conclusion seems generally to go the post processing route. My observation would be that the RPC collection do offer things like reflections that would otherwise be a lot of work post. I would be interested in how everyone else efficiently adds the shadows and reflections necessary to give these people realism without spending a LOT of time in PP? Another way to get reflections and shadows directly in the render would be to use 2d people on opacity mapped planes. I tend to always do people in post though, as they are usually subject to change. Jason Matthews
I typically use a combination of RPCs in post and people mapped to planes for the rendering. I only put a few people in the rendering - some one far, one close, and one or two in the middle for scale. Then I use RPC and others in PS. As Stephen said, many times the location of people changes. That allows me max flexibility.
Fooch
Not a big fan of RPC's on my end. I normally render out a pass with multiple cylinders at 1.7 m and use them as a height reference for photoshop work. (Then again my work process is very much post based)
3dvizual
Thanks for all your advices. I can see that I maybe should give it a try with the free rpc's and maybe try some postwork in PS.
