Daniel Doerksen
I have been trying to venture to new lighting styles, and seem to be struggling with this. Im using a hdr for env., and a low vray sun for direction. I know this is a common issue, ive searched "vray splotches" but among the 80 threads ive had terrible luck. I would really love to understand the problem a bit but im not sure what is needing adjustment, im using fairly typical settings. I assume from what ive read that its being caused from the lights on the interior. they are just standard vray lights except the ones on the top right of the house, those are IES,

Daniel Doerksen
Neat theres some good advice in there. I hid the glass in that window and it got rid of the main artifacts against the wall. So how do i fix the problem though. i know the glass is the culprit. turning of gi and caustics on the vray object projects on that piece of glass. that didnt help Also i think the articfacts on the grass and pavement are due to my hrdi values set too high Nvm all my problems are due to glass. 2nd edit, Its a noob mistake, i checked affect shadows on my glass material and all is well Edited February 28, 2011 by Daniel Doerksen
Ismael
Thanks for the feedback. It is good to see a thread wrapped up with the specific final solution. If you would believe it we are all noobs in one way or another.
btee
Those kinds of splotches are often caused by reflections and/or refractions when you're using interpolation. Might not be the cause in this case, but I've basically stopped using interpolation entirely for final renders, since these kinds of splotchy artifacts often arise.
