Editing IES files

Hi,

I got a light fixture which when measured produced a different light distribution than the comp. modeling does. I would like to be able to edit the IES file. Am not a comp. wiz so if that is possible and can be done I wuld much appreciate a responce that would take me not being a comp. wiz into consideration.

Thanks heaps

PS got a few other light fixtures from the same (chineese) make that have a similar problem with and need the use them to design for a very price sensitive client. Any helpq input will be much appreciated.

Are you simply talking about the actual intensity of the light or it's physical distribution (ie. the shape it creates on a wall)?

If it's the former you can simply open up the .ies file in notepad. One of the numbers towards the top will be 1, which is the intensity value.

If it's the second, then I can't help you. Perhaps there's some software to do it but I haven't come across it. It sounds like at that point, you're going to be 'eyeballing' it anyway so you might be better off simply finding a new .ies that looks how you want.

Be a God and create your own light. Every now and again I use a free program to create my own lights. If it is realism you want, this program IS NOT FOR YOU. If it is a specific look you want to achieve, give it a go. Here it is: http://www.mediafire.com/?uydwmjeaven

I have not tried downloading it from here, but when Googling it found that first. Otherwise, if you don´t trust that website for whatever reason, just google IESGEN4, as that´s the latest version I´m aware of and it does work on Windows7 (just tried it yesterday). Cheers!
