Matt Sugden
Hi, I wonder if someone can give me some quick guidance. I modelling a house, as in every room, and to my dismay I've just run out of material slots in the material editor. When I try and add textures to multi/sub objects I keep being prompted to that uvw maps are missing on objects which were fine? I've used multi/sub objects where applicable but now I'm out, is there some obvious way to get more, I can't beleive I'm limited to only 24 material slots, is this a reality or is there something I'm missing. Ta very much.
Chad Warner
You can have an unlimited amount of materials in a scene, but are limited to having 24 in the material editor. If you need more materials, just copy one of the existing materials, rename it, and edit it as needed. Then apply it to whichever objects you need. -Chad
Eric
You are indeed limited on the number of slots in the material editor window. However, you can have almost an infinite number of materials in your scene. Not sure of exactly how many, but I'm sure you'll never have to find out, nor will I!! In the editor material slots, simply select any material you're not currently working with (but has already been assigned to your model), and click the "X" button below the spheres. It will then pop up a box that says: "The mtl/map is used in the scene. Do you want to: Affect mtl/map in both the scene and in the editor slot?" "Affect only mtl/map in the editor slot?" Select the second option, and it will simply reset the sphere to the gray sphere with no adjustments. To get your material back should you need to edit it at a later time, simply select the material from the "Scene" in the "Material/Map Browser", or select the object in your scene with that material applied to it, and then in the "Material Editor" click the blue sphere to the left with an arrow pointing at it that has the "Get Material" help text that pops up with your mouse over it. bio-hazard
hi, another way to do it would be to click on any existing material in the material editor, and clicking the get new material assign a new standard or any other type of material to that slot. this new material will automatically overwrite the existing material in the slot but not delete it from your scene. regaining a position for the overwritten material into a material editor slot has been explained above.
