casper18
hi guyz .. I'm a new MAYA user .. i have a mini map with buildings build on it. Can i import/export/convert .mb files into 3DS MAX? if yes, is there another software that i will use in order to do such things ? and what software or application will i use ? I REALLY NEED YOUR HELP ! Thank You in advanced !
JonRashid
You can transfer as .fbx. The only thing to be wary of is smoothing groups do not exist in maya so will be lost

JonRashid
You can export direct from Maya as an FBX file and import in Max
casper18
MAx? are you talking about 3Ds MAX ? if i export direct from Maya as an fbx file, will i use Export All or export selected ?
JonRashid
Yes 3dsMax. You can choose what you want to export from export all to export selected - it's up to you. Then just go to 3dsmax import and your done.
casper18
when i export all , there's no .fbx file type .. how can i export it ?
JonRashid
Maya 2011 has a .fbx output but you can try .3ds or .dxf or many of the other formats that Max can import. Just look at what Max can import and compare it to the list of what Maya can export.
casper18
but only .mb .ma .move are the filetypes that i can see .. none of them fits in max .. how can i export then ? i really really need your help .. T_T
JonRashid
Go To window, settings/preferences and at bottom is plugin manager. You need to activate fbx and obj probably. This will then allow you to export those formats. Both of which can be read in by Max.
