Cesar R
Does anyone know of a software similar to mac's iphoto (but for windows) to organize and keep assests such as models and textures and material libs? Thanks
Jeff Mottle
I use IMatch (www.photools.com) for all my digital pics, but it only does images, no other types of assets. AlienBrain does it all and specifically targets the digital CG asset market, but they are not cheap http://www.nxn-software.com/ Canto has much better pricing, but I used them years ago for a company wide deployment to over 1000 people and it was a complete disaster. Things went wrong and their support people simply said it was developed on the mac and ported to the PC so if it doesn't work then it's not our problem. I pulled the application from the company arsenal and vowed to trash talk them for the rest of my life. http://www.canto.com/. I'd STAY FAR FAR FAR away from this crap. I don't know of many others that do everything that is a digital CG format, but the things you want to look for on Google are "Digital Asset Management" (DAM)
schmoron13
you can try Extensis' Portfolio. We use that here at the office (on pc's and macs) and it sounds perfect for you: http://www.extensis.com/en/products/product_family.jsp?locale=en_US&id=prod60005

xgarcia
Hey Cesar....long time.. I've used ACDSee for about 2 years now - best photo organizer period. It blows iPhoto outta the water. Give it a try - it's cheap too - get the basic version - the "PowerPack" one has gimmicky add-ons that you don't need. Xavier

tcorbett
Although I haven't used it yet, i've been hearing good things about Picasa. (http://www.picasa.com) It's a free download, looks like you can get additional services for online sharing. Looks like Google runs it, so that's a good sign.
