CliveG
I'm being a noob again.... Whenever I do an AO pass with Vraylightmtl / VrayDirt, I switch GI off, then in Global Switches I switch off Lights, Hidden Lights (Default being off anyway) and Shadows off then place my material in the overide slot - however I'm noticing almost all of these renders turn out brighter in the centre than at the outside extents. So there's something still happening to produce an uneven light distribution? Is this right or am I missing another simple switch somewhere? architectandy
You could use a vrayextratex pass in your render elements to create an AO pass - using vraydirt as the material. Doing it this way excludes any farting about with switching on and off lights etc.
CliveG
Thanks Andy, I like the AO being added Post as it allows me a bit of extra control to paint and dodge some areas more than others. It's the overall evenness of the levels that's a minor fly in the ointment at the moment. Cheers
RobNJ73
The vrayextratex pass does allow you to do it in post... it generates the AO as a separate image sequence from your beauty pass, so you can add it and play around with it in post.
CliveG
Thanks Robert, & apologies to Andy for doubting this, Yes this is a great solution to my problem. I am still curious as to why there is a light bias though with the other method. Thanks again guys. Cheers
RobNJ73
Are you using a VRay Physical Camera? If so, it might be the vignetting causing the issues.
John Dollus
second the vignette suggestion. sounds like you have that on. if you are using the vrayLight method, also turn off your camera exposure.
CliveG
Thanks guys, Yep the vignetting and Physical camera exposure has that sorted too. Excellent job all round. Cheers
