Bhanu
Hi, We are exploring Cinema 4D for Architectural Visualisation. Quiet nice rendering abilities and lighting. Nice 3d modeling tools too. Lot of our work with CAD 2D information. How to import 2d drawing into C4D. I tried with dxf format. Straight line are missing and some curved polylines and circles, arcs are coming well. What is your advice on spline based modeling in Cinema 4D. Any help in thir regard helps us a lot....thanks in advance..
STRAT
my advice? steer well clear of spline/arc/2d etc importing into C4D. read this thread first - http://www.cgtalk.com/showthread.php?t=148046&highlight=STRAT i got exactly the same problem. Cinema is superb at almost everything but spline importing. and it's a MASSIVE let down for me. Maxon are slowely allowing more and more C.A.D. packages to seamlessly integrate with C4D, but AutoCAD wont yet. I personally want the infinate precise accuracy and more importantly, predictability and controlability of my splines when i go from one app to another. C4D wont let me do this (yet...) so I've reverted back to using Acad/Viz. this to me, is the perfect combination. Come on Maxon, pull ur finger's out. maybe a better DXF in and DWG in feature in Rel 9 maybe?
Bhanu
Oh........ I posted same information at CGtalk too.... Thanks Strat for that link....for the extensive discussion already happened. I was struggling a lot...wasted a lot of time at home in the night ....thinking I am doing wrong in import options of Dxf. Yes I hope Maxon would do something on next version..there is already some update with Vectorworks and ArchiCAD...
LunaCyborg
Well in my humble opinion, there is an easy way to do that. You will need Macromedia Freehand mX, and import the dwg or dxf file, once you have it there is just a matter of selecting two splines and select join from the edit menu and instantly they are converted to one line, in this way you have a clean splines to work on. Then is just a matter of extruding the splines in cinema 4d and this will be a good starting point of using autocad files with cinema4d.
LunaCyborg
As a last step, I forgot to mention that you can export from freehand to cinema 4d in ai format (that is adobe illustrator format) and everything will work fine
LunaCyborg
Another suggestion is to import the autocad files in 3dsmax7 which works so fine (I have tried this). the import just works fine with all the lines intact even the blocks and layers. And then export it as dxf file or as 3ds file
Bhanu
Hi Ivan Pedraza, Thanks for suggestion... I worked through Adobe Illustrator; it worked very well ... and happy with the import. But this is not a complete solution, direct import from CAD saves a lot of time; drawing entities would maintain their positions.
