questions regarding linear workflow issue

1. Is LWF a must for VRay rendering?

I remembered I don't need to do any extra things when I did Vray rendering in my former firm's machine two years ago. But now when I tried to render in my own machine, I found the image is too gray. I was told LWF is the way to go.

Does it mean my previous firm's computer has been adjusted by someone else?

2. Where is the best source to learn quickly?

Thanks for your input. I need to tackle this today. My design is done but the presentation quality is an issue!

As you've time pressures I'll offer my 10 cents worth - but LWF is a big subject and there's lot's to think about and employ in your work practices, moreover applying them retrospectively (i.e you said your job is finished) is a bit more difficult. I'm sure there are plenty of more senior people here who can offer a better explanation / solution, but in a nutshell....

If you are doing interior work LWF will let light travel through your interior scene more realistically, so if you are too grey... this could well be your problem. In your Vray render settings, go to the color mapping and set (preferably Linear Multiply) the Gamma to 2.2 and check the Linear Workflow box. This is intended as a workaround for legacy work and NOT as a substitute for true LWF but is pretty good to give you an idea if this is going to be the magic bullet you need in going forward.

Have a read here

Thereafter there's lot's of threads here to enlighten (and confuse you) as to correct LWF practices for new work.

Hope this helps you out.
