popoff
Hi guys, do you know how to create realistic animated water/sea surface inside max without using plug-ins? I saw amazing results on youtube, but there was no explanation "how to". Link to tutorial would also help.
Ismael
Found these just googling. I personally never done any of it! Good fortune (luck is so overused...)! The first may just be what you need. The second may be basic? The third looks awesome! http://www.polygonblog.com/3d-water-the-ocean http://www.3d-palace.com/xenomorphic/education/doc_psw.htm
postite
Hi, There is a very simple solution: use the MR A&D shader water. A lot of params. and it's auto anim.

alrawli
The Understanding the Elements books are a great resource for this kind of thing. For water try two animated noise modifiers on a plane, rotate the gizmos so they ar at 90 degrees to each other, play around with the z size and animate the phase. Then make a vray material with a cellular map set to fractal in the bump channel or you can use smoke and animate the phase. Reflection is key to realistic water a good sky with clouds adds depth and areas of contrast. There are some decent ocean/water shaders on the Vray Materials website that might save a bit of time. popoff
alrawli : thanks for your reply , your idea to animate already created water mats from vraymaterials.de is pretty useful. I made 2 wave modifiers + 1 noise. Smoke must be placed also in bump slot - right ? I`ll post my sea scene here when work is done.
Ismael
I'll be glad to see the scene!
