Peter M. Gruhn
My first go is five circles arranged correctly and attached together (soulburn scripts ftw) then lofted with twist. Use scale to bring the ends together and bevel to counter the shrinking of each rod. It'll be OK for distant work. My second go is five circles attached to a dummy. Moved up. Rotated. And moved to center at top and bottom and further out halfway up. Then give them all a GhostTrails with trails set to 100 (how many I used) frames. Peter M. Gruhn
For my third go, I created a line for the height. Divided it up into a bunch of segments so it would curve well. Copied it five times around the corners of an n-gon. Combined the five into a single spline (Soulburn Scripts ftw) and added a twist then added a 3x3 FFD. For more control over the bulge use a 4x4. Scaled the top and bottom control points of the FFD in towards zero. Since you can't loft on a multi-segment spline, I cloned out only one bar. Lofted my circle along it. Align the pivot of the single bar to the center of the group spline. Set angle snap to 72 degrees. Rotated one notch and 4 instances.
Peter M. Gruhn
The one with the GhostTrails looks the nicest because there's ease in/out on the animation so the twist is progressive.
