Dilemma : triangular-shaped house needs a roof

Hi everyone!

My husband and I are currently designing our futur house. As weird as it might sound, the shape that fullfills all our criterias is the triangle! The long wall is facing south while the "tip of the triangle" faces north. The whole thing fits on one single story.

Where things get a little complicated, is when we try to design the roof. The house will be built in Quebec, and with all the snow accumulation it's preferable not to have a flat roof. And when we try to draw something that makes a 45 degree angle starting from the center of the house, the roof becomes unbelivably tall: useless in terms of heating, difficult in terms of building, and expensive in termes of $$

I tried to google "triangular shaped house" or "triangle house", but 99.9% of the results are about triangular roofs on rectangular or square shaped houses and 0,1% are triangular houses with flat roofs, which doesn't help at all!

Any of you has an idea, suggestion, reference, or just anything informative that could help us solve our "roof problem" on this atypical house shape?

Thanks for reading

Do you need the entire roof to be sloped at 45 degrees? Perhaps you could start it off at 45 then cut the roof in half and slope the top half by say 15 degrees instead. this would still allow the snow to drop off rather than collecting I'd imagine? Unless you do something like that you're always going to end up with an extremely tall structure I think.

Does it not work, pulling the center point of the triangle from the top and raising it to create 3 faces on the roof?

The triangle dimensions are needed and if there is a maximum building heigth limitation, that needs to be declared also.

I think the problem is that they want/need a 45 degree angle from the base wall to the roof. So when you raise the centrepoint you have to raise it what looks like 3 x the height of the main building just to get it at 45 degrees.
