Really need help! : 3 computers > 3 different renders...

I planned to use 3 different computers to render different parts of an anim (3ds + MR).

BUT, for the same max file, I have differences in the colours and shadows.

This appears in the trees foliage (proxies), in the grass (blend mat) and even in normal grey A&D shader.

I'm totally lost... :(

Any idea ??

The fgm file can render on each machine differently depending on the start frame camera position etc, so you need to lock the file.

Try rendering the fgm file in totality from one machine (possibly slaving all PCs in a distributed bucket render) and then make it available but locked for rendering.

Are you opening the files seperately/manually on each pc or through a manager as render slaves/nodes?

I would render the fgm file and then use the other machines as render slaves then they all use the same files and settings. As one render finishes that freed up slave will help the next render in the queue, this is a much more efficient render method which will save you many hours.

Important - Remember to switch off distributed bucket rendering before you submit to the render manager or you might get even more confused! Though, if you were really clever... (that's enough for now :).

Hi Michael, thx for these clear explanations :)

At this time, I have 2 pc here and 2 other in another office (another city). I use DBR when 2pc work in the same place and I control them with Team Viewer. So yes, I open the file manually.

The problem is that the anim rendered in place 1 do not "connect" (colours) correctly with anim rendered in place 2.

I will try to render all FG maps from the same machine and send them to the other machines.

I'm not used to render managers. Is backburner the solution in my case ? Another soft?

So, I generate a single FG map, lock it and try to render on different machine.

3 of my 4 machines render exactly the same thing => good

But the last one (the more powerful :( ) render something rather different ( with the same fg map!).

It seems like there is something wrong about tilling...

Any MR guru ? How is it possible ?

My few ideas:

Do you have same gamma settings on all machines? Do all machines use same maps? Do you use PNG as either maps or output? (I remember there were some issues with gamma of PNG files) - maybe you should try using TIFFs instead.
