Jeff Mottle
So as not to get too far off topic on this thread, I'd started a new one from here: http://www.cgarchitect.com/vb/showthread.php?t=6517&page=2&pp=10 Ernest: When you buy Google adwords you pay a certain rate based upon the keywords you want to target. The more popular the keyword the more you pay per click on your word or banner. What I meant about when I started serving them and costing the person more money is that presumably if your keyword was "Architectual Rendering" there are not too many sites on the web, if any, that are serving Google ads and have content that is releated to Architectual Rendering. So when I staretd serving them on a site that had those keywords I'm assuming they probably got a whole lot more traffic. BTW, the google ads are served based upon the data the Googlebot finds when it crawls a webpage. ie. CGA has architectual rendring keywords so anyone with an add targetting that keyword would show up on my site. Make sense?
Susan
I ran a Google Adword for a Survey that I was running. I had a very large number of keywords that I was testing. I experimented with the maximum that I was willing to pay. The problem for me is the "affiliated" sites that Google runs the ad on. They do not use the keywords to place those but some sort of algorithm based on the words in the ad itself. I'm sure I had a huge number of showings on those sites when the searches had very little to do with my subject. The worst part is that many clicked on my ad but then, having no real interest, they never "converted" or that is, took my survey. It cost me a lot in the end for a very small conversion ratio. I am told that to have 5% click through rate is about average and a conversion ratio of only 2% of that is normal too. That's a lot of showings that don'c cost anything but a lot of showings that do cost and yield no results at all.
Jeff Mottle
Just for comparision that type of click through ratio VERY high. 1% is considered high in most industries.
Jim Mann
The problem for me is the "affiliated" sites that Google runs the ad on. Yeah, I do find it funny when I see my own company advertised on CGarchitect.com. I can't imagine picking up any clients through this site but I wonder how much cheaper I get the exposure compared to the likes of Marlin, RPC etc. Jim
Chad Warner
I can't imagine picking up any clients through this site but I wonder how much cheaper I get the exposure compared to the likes of Marlin, RPC etc. So does the google program get you clients in general? Do you think that it is worth the money? Thanks, Chad

Of course it probably helps that my name is in the contacts section. There are indeed clients that do come looking here so thre is the potential for google ads to work. I have no idea how well though.
