gdamaso88
I've been having this issue with my max interface. We've tried reinstalling the whole program and switching the driver from directx 9 to 10, but none of this is working. See attached image Any ideas? Sketchrender
Sounds like a memory problem. Have you restarted and only used max and see what happens.
David Arbogast
I've had an issue with disappearing icons in Max. And, like you I tried re-installing the program with no success. So, I posted my trouble on Autodesk's 3ds Max user forum. Turns out my Max user interface got corrupted and that Max stores the UI configuration in a subfolder of your Windows user folder. Reinstalling Max won't overwrite the corrupted UI, since it isn't stored in Max's installation folder under "Program Files". To delete the corrupted UI: 1. Navigate to the “c:\users\USER\AppData\Local\Autodesk\3dsMax” folder and delete the folder for your version of the application (in my case 3dsMaxDesign 2011 - 64 bit). 2. Restart 3ds Max 3. 3ds Max will automatically rebuild the deleted files and your UI will be restored. 4. Reload all your personal keyboard/menu/quad/etc. preferences. Now a word as to why my user interface got corrupted (and caused me to lose icons): When upgrading to a new version of 3ds Max it is very tempting to try to re-use old UI preference files...but doing so causes major UI issues like this. So, the lesson learned for me, is to not try to migrate UI files to an upgraded version of 3ds Max. I don't know if any of this helps, but I had a similar situation of lost icons and wanted to share what worked for me.

David Arbogast
I'm going to try another super-basic suggestion on the level of a "is it plugged in?": Have you tried right-clicking in the empty ribbon space to confirm that you don't have your "Command Panel" and "Main Toolbar" checked?
