RevitGary
I have been looking for info on shadows. But cant find what I am looking for. My client wants soft shadows. I assume that ray trace is the way to go for shadows in general. any adjustments I need I should make in the ray trace settings. Also with the sun I know I can soften the shadows. I guess my question Which shadows are best to get the effect I want and still have good render times Advanced ray trace. mental ray shadow map area shadows shadow map Ray traced shadows Which of these 5 do you use ? which ones should be avoided? Which would work the best for soft shadows and good render times as always thanks so much
Justin Hunt
Photometric light with raytrace shadows, light emit from shape set to rectangle. Larger size = softer shadows = grainer shadows = higher shadow sampling = longer render times. If absolute shadow detail isn't important and render times are, then I'd use a large self-illuminating plane that emits FG. This will give nice soft shadows and decent render times. To get better shadow detail, up the fg settings. jhv
RevitGary
I need the round shape of a spotlight. its a restaurant image. I am experimenting. When I make the hotspot small to get a soft edge I loose brightness.
