voltaire_ira
Hi everyone. Im working on Mies Van Der Rohe's Fransworth house to be used in our Architectural History class in the university as a teaching aide. Exteriors and interiors and maybe a walkthrough will be rendered so that students can see great works by great architects of the modern era. other works of other architects will follow. also, this is a practice session for modeling and rendering in max so Instructors can teach efficient max modeling and rendering in our max training subjects. the model is still in testing as well as the rendering. Used vray for the render with displacement for the grass. computation for the ir map took six hours due to the density of the grass displacement..any ideas to lessen the time using displacement? color bleed is too much and the tree looks hairy due to the displacement for the trunk. sorry for the large image since i needed to render this one big to see the detail in grass and the trunk. C&C will be appreciated. http://md8solutions.com/voltaire/exterior.jpg
Crazy Homeless Guy
suggestion... drop the displacement grass, and concentrate on creating more enviroment for the house to sit in.
Iain Denby
Yeah, get your priorities and focus right...forget the fancy grass. Unless this image is for a grass seed company, who cares about that?
izrut
displacement a?
Ricardo Eloy
Agree. First things first. Focus on the building, create a place, not only grass. Also, check you horizon, looks like your building is sitting on the top of a cliff.
voltaire_ira
hi, thanks for all your comments! the grass will definitely be less and more work on the model and entourage. i was just experimenting on vray displacement since i was impressed with shrek 2's grass animation ( trip to far far away ). anyways, I'll focus on the building more since its the main goal of the render. btw, can somebody tell me how to animate the grass so it will sway with the wind? badpixel
you are kidding right???...if you make that grass swings...you gotta upload that animation!!!!! do you work for george lucas or what???!!!
Crazy Homeless Guy
i am not sure, but i doubt you can make displacement grass sway. try using a hair, fur or shag method to create grass.
Eric
did I read somewhere that the new version of VRay was going to have the fur feature? Not just plain displacement, but a fur feature?
Ricardo Eloy
Yes, it will come with a nice fur. Not particle-based, though, what makes it harder to animate. For the displacement grass to be animated, you might fake it using animated noise/ripple modifiers. But it's just a thought, not sure if it works. Wanna try? mar33
Hi John, I think the Farnsworth house is an exellent example of modern Architecture. The Farnsworth house was one of the first projects I modeled & rendered in Max. I hope you don't mind if I post that image on your thread. Thanks, MB

mar33
You might want to get this book: Farnsworth House: Ludwig Mies Van Der Rohe : Architecture in Detail (Architecture in Detail) by Maritz Vandenberg It contains all the details needed to construct an acurate model. check-it out. Tbonz
Just a side note, the skymap seems a bit dark for the abundant amount of light. Nice building, I like the simplicity of the style.
voltaire_ira
here's an update.adjusted the sky color and added the entourage. will be showing some exposed ground in the next update so that the grass isn't covering the ground plane entirely. its quite big so here's the link, wait for the image to load.. http://md8solutions.com/voltaire/fransworth1ps.jpg
