Hi Guys,

First off, Im not an Arch Viz pro - I'm a Games Artist.

So this is my first attempt at Arch Viz modelling style. (Im much more used to modelling on a smaller scale.)

I am on a very tight deadline as this is for academic work so was just looking for some quick crits to hopefully improve the overall look. Ignore the white bits - thats where im going to use 2 sided material and it didnt render properly.

Just hoping people could point things out for me and gimmie some ideas of that to put in the centre of the building (I think its an open area but I only have external photographs references so I'm kinda guessing.)

Thanks in Advance

Kane,

I would say that its difficult to crit this, thats probably why no one has yet.. If you are going to post WIP's, its probably better to offer a few close ups, or ideas of your camera angles / levels, or where your sun is coming from. It certainly needs a ground plane, as these 4 floating models dont really offer up any clue to the finished article.

Plus, there are no materials, ideas of scale, context etc.. It looks what it is at the moment.. A grey model.. Very tricky to offer much more than that.

What I would suggest, is getting a ground plane in there, setting yourself some camera views that you are looking to run with, adding a sun system of some sort, and then rendering. Also, make any glass materials glass, that way you can see reflective areas against the white model. Makes looking at it easier to understand that way.

Hope that helps a bit..

  • 4 weeks later...

3 Crits I see right off:

-change clouds...they look too cartoonish. Unless there is some reason for these clouds, they need to go...replace them with a photo of a real sky in Photoshop.

-What is your renderer? The image looks flat...like it's missing global illumination. Also, the windows lack reflection.

-The grass needs help. Once again, if this is for use in real time, then all bets are off I guess...but if this is a static render, the grass can be improved. Either way, the particular view of dead/unkempt grass in the foreground is hurting the image.

But this is a good start! Good modeling.

I can change the clouds from volumetric to static but my night time shot wont work then :D

This is rendered out of a game engine in real-time. So its real-time global illumination.

I've not quite worked out why I can't get true real-time reflections on the windows - im working on that.

I'll have a look at the grass - see if I can find a nice one - thanks :)

Better? (New clouds, removed unkept grass)
