HELLO EVERYONE, THIS IS MY QUESTION....DO I NEED V-RAY OR LIGHT WAVE SOFTWARE TO HAVE PHOTORELISTIC RESULTS IN A RENDER.....OR I CAN ACHIVE IT ONLY WITH AUTODESK VIZ ??????

HERE´S A BUNCH OF DAMN GOOD RENDERS TO ILUSTRATE WHAT I MEAN WITH PHOTOREALISTIC

render credits TIM WOODS (WOODY79)

HAGEN SAEHORST (SMIGHTY)

JHON VOLTAIRE (VOLTAIRE IRA)

Not sure what you meant by that...

First, don't compare oranges and apples. VRay is a renderer going standalone soon, while Lightwave is a full modeling/rendering/animation package. There are so many great things done with both (and another hand full of awful stuff too). One thing I've learned after all these years in CG is that the difference lies not in the car, but in who drives it.

Ok Sorry, I Thought That V-ray And Lightwave Were Like Lightscape...you Know...first You Model In Viz, Max, Autocad Etc, End Then Export To The Program For Get A Good Render.

Well My Mean9ing Of My Question Was If A Can Get The Photorealistic Results Of The Renders Above With Viz 4 Alone.

(and Yes, Im Awere That The Artist Is The Soul Of A Render Not A Machine)

I'm going to say yes, you can get those results with Viz4 alone. However, you don't have to work with Viz4 in its fresh install state. VRay has a free version you can download that is limited in features, but will still give you great results. I've used the free version for probably a couple years, and only today got the full/Advanced version up and running.

Attention to detail, and patience, and you can create nearly anything you want!

Also, check out www.erco.com for IES driven lights for your scenes. There are probably more, but Erco is the only one I mess with. IES/Photometric lights will add a lot to your scene.

Not Noticed That........i Always Use Photmetric Lights For Interiors

(from Thomas Lighting Website, `cause Thats The Luminaries Are Used By Owr Lighting Engineere) One 3d The Plant Probably Slow Me More Than 20 Photometric Lights. At Least In My Case.

....so therefore ill stick to viz, just need to improve a lot my shaders......if i switch to another....i guees it will be maya....but at least not this year.

Hi Carlos,

Jan Ray Brookes (do a Google search for his website) has a good tutorial for interiors using VIZ 4 radiosity. That's how I got up and running with it, though I came from a Lightscape background. If you are using VIZ 2005, the materials need to have Diffuse and Ambient colors locked. In VIZ 4, the materials Ambient colors should be black. Anyway, Jan goes into controlling color bleed, over-saturation and brightness.

Hi Fran,

I was browsing the Autodesk site today, went to check out the Viz2005 page, lo and behold I saw one of your scenes being used in their marketing images. I hope you had a say in that...and if you did congrats. Excellent exposure for your work! :)

Oh yes, they have my permission. I can't find any of my images on their site though. Where is it?
