Nachi
Hey guys, Ive come across a strange feature lately, when changing the pivot point position in the hierarchy panel of an object, Ive realized that 3ds max retains the original pivot in its memory, and when you reset the pivot it returns it to it's original transform location. this is screwing up a script i am trying to write. Does anyone have an idea as to how to completely and irreversibly change the position of the pivot ( basically erase max's memory of the original position of the pivot )??? Thx a bunch
notamondayfan
You could leave the pivot point where it is, and move the object (in sub object mode) so that the pivot appears in the correct place. Now when you hit reset pivot, it wont jump back to the default position.
Nachi
hmm... that's an option but kind of a strange way to do things.. no?
notamondayfan
I guess so, but its a strange request!! What is your script for? Another way to modify the pivot is to create a new object where you want the pivot to be, then attatch the other object, and delete the new object, so you inherit the pivot. It seems your problem is that reset pivot will always remember where the pivot was when the object was created, not where it is moved to.
Nachi
My script is for slicing multiple slices on a building ( slicing the mesh ) with one button. I've looked around for a script thats does this but with no luck, so i decided to write it myself. The thing is, when i add a slice modifier through the script it positions the first slice plane in the original pivot coordinates, (not good for me) since its not located in the bottom.. Nachi
I've also had this problem when animating complex animations back in the day.. it's strange that max doesn't have a solution for this. it seems to me kind of basic. anyway, thx for the reply mate.
