Crazy Homeless Guy
Watched this earlier today. I agree that it sounds like it is going to big a big boost to the speed of workflows.
Devin Johnston
I hope they've dealt with the compatibility problems they've had with Nvidia cards.
kenpimentel
We're told by customers that the new nvidia driver seems to deliver the results with 2011. So, please go try them and let us know.
Devin Johnston
That's not good news, what about the display performance issues people have been having with the quadro cards?
kenpimentel
Not good news? The fact that Nvidia found a problem with win 7 64b and tweaked their drivers to reduce the problem? Why is that bad news? Most people have taken the Nvidia driver update and it resolved their issue. There are some other issues that will be part of a Service Pack for 2011. This mostly relates to having Gamma turned on in the viewport.
Devin Johnston
Well I've had support tickets open with Autodesk and Nvidia for months and they both admit there's a problem but haven't come up with a solution.
kenpimentel
Well, we may not be talking about the same problem. Nvidia's latest drivers do work around a performance issue caused by a bug in Win 7 64b. Msft may or may not have fixed this bug in SP1. We know that Max 2012 users don't seem to experience the problem when they use Nitrous, but they might when they use our legacy DX9 driver. We have a Service Pack planned for max 2011 that should address at least one of the viewport issues (gamma-related). That's about all I can say given what you've told me.
