Jonathan
Hi, Has anyone any experience or ideas relating to rendering 3d objects within a time lapsed (animated) sky. I am keen to get the effect of changing light and shadows from clouds, sun position etc. onto my cgi objects. I want to use hdri lighting yet obviously my time lapsed sky wont be hdr format so are there any ways around this? I cant find anything like this on a web search. Thanks in advance J
John Dollus
HDRI lighting is pretty general so you can likely get away with something close and it won't be a problem. reflection would be a different story but depending on your angles, just adjusting and offsetting the time lapse footage will work for that as well. There was an animation I saw several years ago by HOK that i always think of when someone mentions this. It was a highrise timelapse that went from one side of the bldg to the other over the course of a day and i remember being really impressed by it. i've tried looking for it from time to time but haven't had any luck. Dave Buchhofer
Maybe not exactly the answer, but debevec has a freely available timelapse hdr image sequence online: http://ict.debevec.org/~debevec/Parthenon/ShotByShot/sequence02/ its a pretty slick shot from a few years back, the downloadable light probes are fairly low res, but its nice regardless. Crazy Homeless Guy
Fake the hell out of it until it looks good, reality is a over rated anyway. You can get some free time laps footage, and HDRI skies form this site also. http://www.openfootage.net/?s=HDRI+Timelapse
Jonathan
Thanks for the input. The Debevec work is great, as always, I'd forgotton about that. I like the idea of faking/playing with reality, the trick I think is finding the point of believable non-reality, not as easy as it sounds. I plan to make my own time lapses on site (well its actually a beach) but recreate most of the elements in Max and AE. Found an interesting link from this site: Oh, whats the possibility of 360 degree hdr time lapses?
