PGD
Having only just switched to 64 bit operating system (Windows 7) and Max 64 bit.. How behind the times are we!?! With that done I'm having trouble with net rendering. On submission I get the: 'error retrieving configuration file' message How do I get around this? A morning of searching has revealed no answer which has made a difference. Some say it is a problem with the 'backburner 2' folder, I dont have one Some say folder privileges, which I cant change, and the privileges look to be the same as the previous 32 bit setup anyway Any tips greatly recieved! I'm sure many of you went through this issue years ago, can you remember what you did to over come the problem? Thanks in advance Phil
PGD
And is it just me... or it 2009 64 bit buggy as h*ll? Cant seem to install updates or service packs either and max says 'unregistered version' along the top, though it was registered just this morning
Devin Johnston
My first suggestion is to figure out why you can't install service pack updates, your right Max is buggy as hell especially if your using a version of it with out all of it's current updates. You probably have some machine permission issues both locally and on your network, fix that and it will probably work.

Devin Johnston
Maybe your copy of Max is corrupted in some way, is it a download or a DVD?
PGD
Its a DVD I've put a few updates on now, and I am able to submit to BB.. but then get 'unknown error while loading application'.. thats testing with the most basic of scene, with nothing but a tea pot in! Devin Johnston
Do any of your nodes work?
PGD
Just got the node working if I send the job as 32bit Still to crack net rendering on the 64bit Win 7 machine though The node is on Win XP 32bit, new PC (also not working just yet) is Win 7 64bit. Can I complete a job on the 64bit machine than have all the nodes render it too? Edited April 19, 2011 by PGD
PGD
Excellent, the Win 7 machine now net renders I just needed to disable/drag the slider to the bottom of the 'User Account Control' setting and restart the machine. But the problems are not quite over just yet.. If I send a job as a 64bit file the 64bit machine will net render it just fine. If I send as a 32 bit job the node will render fine.. but both wont combine Say I've a number of frames to render, It seems I'd have to choose to send the job as either 32 or 64bit.. How can I get them all to chip in and render? Must I have both 64 and 32bit Max and Vray installed on the 64bit machine to do this Edited April 19, 2011 by PGD
Devin Johnston
Basically on the 64 bit machines you have to have both a 64bit and 32 bit version of Max installed, that way when you want to render in 32 bit mode all of your machines will render. It doesen't work the other way though because a 32 bit machine can't run a 64 bit program so in that case you can only use 64 bit machines to render.
