How long does it take?

Just a general question. You have the plans/ideas, you boot up your machine and sit down with a cuppa______, grab your tool of choice and start modeling. from 1st click to start to render, how long does it usually take? I know it varies but just an estimate as some of the work here looks like it would take many months :D

Just wondering

depends on many factors from scope of work, size of project, level of detail, number of ppl working on projet, number of revisions. For me, given that I'm a small time freelancer with the occasional help from abroad, a typical project consisting of 1 residential exterior rendering would generally take me about ~40 hours worth of work, maybe less, maybe more. But then there are the times where I can do it in 2 days, or the projects that extend themselves to a couple of weeks or more. So yes it varies greatly, at least for me.

This is sort of a vague, equivocal question. Each project is vastly different from size, complexity, etc. However, even with like projects, or even the same project, time required can be immensely different. An interior shot, an exterior day shot, an exterior night shot, or an animation of the same project all take drammatically different levels of work and input. I would venture to say that exterior day shots are the fastest type of render and animations are the longest (since you have to model/render way more).

To try and answer your question though - for a small office building, exterior day shot, I'd say a couple days-ish to model and render.

I didn't mean anything by this comment. I was just wondering as I would like to get into architectural interior renderings and its nice to see how other people approach their work. I probably didn't do a very good job in my description. Thanks anyway;)

David,

Since every project varies in size and complexity, what you might do to get better feedback, is to post an example project and ask, "From modeling to finished rendering, how long would this project take you?" That would remove most of the ambiguity and enable better responses.
