Heeelp: Uninstal/Reinstall Max6 nightmare!

By mistake, I deleted some 3dsMax6 files, some of them surely involved with the uninstalling process!

I can not either enter/reinstall and or uninstall it, so I got stuck!

I renamed "C:/3DS Max 6"as something else and edited the WindowsXP Register removing all references to "3DS Max 6" and "Discreet".

But seems it is not enough!

What else should I do to be able to reinstall Max6' please?

Thanx a lot!

it is probably a cdilla (the licensing sytem for max) issue. the only way to get rid of the cdilla license is to reformat the drive.

Why not just delete the MAX6 folder? Reformating a drive is too costly and time consuming for that matter.

Archkre:

Take your PC to the highest floor of your building and let it roll and tumble down the stairs and down to the basement and...

..er Go to the control panel and click on the Add/Remove Programs Icon then click on the 'change' button of the MAX6 installation entry. It should prompt and give you a choice to repair your MAX6 installation.

The problem is in "Add/Remove programs" 3dsmax6 I don't have that Change /remove option, like in all the others.

Before I used to have it, but since i deleted some Uninstall.log or something like that, the options disappeared!

Somebody told me:"Here's what I do if I run into the same problem with other programs.

I delete the program root folder, then run my registry cleaner and delete all the invalid links."

But in the Registry I looked for the words"3dsmax" and "Discreet"and remove all the strings(thousands), but It was not enough!

Maybe I should look up for other words in the Registy?

Can you think of which ones, please?

Thanxxx

I Had a same problem before.

Best way to repair that is download a free registry cleaner and remove all entries for 3ds max6 and cdilla. Then re-install 3ds max 6.

There are free registry cleaners for download..the best i've tried was by some Lima (i'm no sure) but that reg cleaner can list all softwares installed and you can uninstall improperly uninstalled or deleted softwares from the reg cleaner's interface.

reg cleaners are handly tools to keep your pc from slowing down.

But make sure you make a back-up of the registry.if you do something crazy lol, you could still restore everything.

Getting rid of max is not as simple as deleting the root folder. You have to go into your regestry and find all the files and such. This can take forever since some are not named what you would expect them to be.

One of the only solutions can be to format your drive. This is one of the reasons I work with Max on my C: drive and run all my work files and stuff I do not want to lose in case of a format on my D: drive. That way if I ever had to re-format in an emergency or during my yearly format I do not have to worry about losing any critical files.

I have had the same problem you had. When I would run max 5 then start photoshop for some reason it would delete my max liscense entry. When this happened you could not simply re-enter a liscense. You couldn't even uninstall max becuase it would still leave entries in your windows files. The only way around this was to reformat and reinstall max fresh. It sucks, but I think it's your only solution.

It sucks! but I am little by little accepting that horrible reality:

Ok: How do I format my C: drive under Windows XP' please?

I am thinking very seriously of buying another Hdd just to install 3DSmax and be Max dedicated one!

Any last minute idea, please?

Try this, maybe it will work! It looks like like it has for some people. Don't erase your hard drive just yet!

i already explained this to someone else but here it goes again.

U have to find a folder in your c drive called Macrovision.

I believe is in your c:\Documents and Settings\Allusers\Aplications\Macrovision.

Once located delete the entire folder and restart 3DS Max 6 and u will be presented with a registration screen. So go a head and register the program and happy Modeling.
