cmuscata
Hi guys, I´m buying a new laptop and considering I use 3d max+Vray for architectural visualisations which should I get? I am gettign rid of my current ASUS G73J with it´s 5870HD card which really was not up to what i need for visualisations. Viewpor perf for depressingly slow and unreactive. I am planning to upgrade to max 2012 with vray2 and I´ve read max 2012 offers great viewport speed improvements over 2011 so that should already help but would the 2800 FX or the GTX485 best take advantage of any improvements in viewport architecture? As regards rendering time would either of them make any difference? been seeing conflicting info regarding 2800FX and 485M - on the basis of viewport performance for these two which one should I choose? Price is basically the same and I´ll be buying this laptop spec: Core i7 Portable 2720-QM (2.2/3.3 GHz, 6MB Cache L3) 16GB RAM 120GB SSD + 500GB 7200 WIN 7 Thanks in advance guys any help is much appreciated. AJLynn
Added to the faster CPU, either of those is going to be fast. My concerns would be, with the 485M, it's going to use battery pretty quick, and with the FX2800M, that's two generation old. Also, more generally, the 5870HD is a very quick GPU. If it's not cutting it for you, you might have some other problem - an old driver version, configuration problem, user error, Windows problem, trying to use DirectX 10 in Max (just don't do it), or your scenes are just too darn large for high-consumer-class hardware. cmuscata
AJ u´re a star! Was about to get rid of the machine and spend 3K on a custom Clevo... U were right the machine i have is fine I just needed to get out of Direct X11 and update my drivers (plus i bought an ssd drive along the way cos the drives are 5400rpm and u really feel the lag, anyway bottomline is the viewport is now literally 4 times faster!! plus now that i had to reinstall windows i got rid of all the bloatware and crap it comes preinstalled with. Dying to get Max2012, they said the vieport perf is even better. phew u saved me man! thank you thank you thank you
AJLynn
You're welcome. Keeping people from spending too much on hardware is kind of my specialty
