The Press release was embargoed until 8am Eastern time here. (BTW I'm in Canada not America.) ;-)

I have always heard people in South America get tee'd off when the U.S. is referred to as where Americans live. Technically the term Americans refers to everyone living in North/South America. Although it could have been my High School geography teacher making things up.

Very disappointing updates, at least for me. Pretty much NOTHING to warrant an upgrade. What sucks is that I still have 5.1 so it'll cost me $1300. I am really losing faith in Max. No backwards compatibility (that is in every other program costing more than $25) so I am screwed unless I cough up the cash.

Does anyone know anything about the Bionatics plugin that came with 6? Does anyone use it? I hoped to see some stuff on here, but it looks like no one uses it. Does it still come with 7? OR should I buy 6 now to get the plugin for free?

Waaaaaaaaaaaah,

Whine cry b!t

Always when ever any AutoDesk new version is released.

The solution is simple- don't buy it and stop torturing yourselves.:)

Other possible solutions :D

-Discreet can outsource (overseas) the programming or the rewrite of the entire program

-Stop focusing on the demographic that buys 50-1000 seats at a crack using it in a cutting edge environment

-Do an Enron Side Step and stop obeying the SEC regulations to please it's customers & cut costs

-Give the program away for a year, tank the stock and it's ability to fund it's operations, just so the entire world can use it-not that Discreet (div) or AutoDesk would be around after to service the software.

-Maybe some government could help us pay for it, yeah the "Starving CG Viz artists grant so they can but Max7 upgrade" Bill. Now all we have to do is lobby the politicians........

:rolleyes:Think I'm trollin' a bit here. The price is hard to swallow but what can you do?

we have a subscription plan, so we will get the upgrade for free.

Same here, but I think that once it arrives I will probably just stick it in a drawer until the plug-ins that I use are upgraded too. I jumped straight from v5 to v6 becasue I thought that I would be doing every job using Mental Ray forever after but it didn't quite work out that way. I could just as easily be using Max 5.

The one interesting point that I noticed were the improved snaps.

will the plug-ins need upgrade? ..i thought the reason they needed upgraded for version 6 was because discreet changed the way the were coded or something like that. max 5 was the first version i used, so there game of upgraded is not familiar to me yet. do you typically need to upgrade your plug-ins with each release?

vray gave its users a free upgrade of its plug-in from 5 to 6, but onyx tree charged its customers for the upgrade from 5 to 6.

any idea?

Indeed. America is the whole continent, not a country. Even north-americans is not 100% accurate, since canadians also live in North America, for example.

Anyway, for the new Max, I'd risk saying it's a tremendous leap for the game industry. Unfortunately, not for us, folks.
