ronin71
Hi, I need to create an interior scene of a theatre with all the seats populated with people. I have the theatre built and now I am wondering what is the best way to put people in the seats? They need to look reasonably good and obviously there needs to be a degree of variety in their looks and clothing but I don;t want them to be animated at all. My 1st idea was to use poser but I'll need 100+ people and that seems like a lot of work. is there an easier way? any ideas? thanks! R
John Dollus
RPC seated people would be a suggestion.
Frosty
I probably wouldnt consider 3d people for a task like this. Sprites would be my choice. As the previous poster said, RPC makes a seated collection. If you can use them, thats the fastest easiest way.
mbr
They also have an 'applause' audience, which is kind of nice depending on what they are watching. Another idea is to go to a stadium show and just take a ton of pics and cut and paste. Imo, that's what most arena/stadiums I've seen do (my guess). I hope you charged a lot for the post work! If not, consider leaving it blank. It's almost as successful empty with good lighting, imo.
Crazy Homeless Guy
how detailed, what type of shot are you doing. you might want to research how the made the crowd in star wars (can't rememebr the name, but the first one of the new series). they painted a que tip different colors, and built a rig for them, then used a hair dryer underneath to make it look like they were cheering. then composited real people for the first couple of rows when the camera was close. Frosty
HAHAHA, CHG, I was thinking about that technique too
Brian Cassil
I think rpc is a clear choice here. They look resonable good, you can look at them from almost any angle (not above or below) and you can use the mass population tool to create the random feel you will need. slawnick
I use models from the People for People collection (way LoRes); I have 3 or 4 stock rows that i instance around for variation in head height, etc. It works pretty well. Archvision is nice if you need that sort of detail; although I'm not crazy about them, as they have zero interaction with the light in the scene. ronin71
thanks for all the suggestions, I looked at rpc and q-tips but they just didn't work for me. I bought poser and created 10 basic sitting people (men, women, children) then exported them into max. in max I wrote a maxscript that places them in the chairs as well as randomly changes their clothes, skin and hair colors. I'll post a pic of if anyone is interested. R
