Azri Aris
Hi Guys, Im a newbie here and needed help.Im using 3ds Max 2009 and Vray 1.5. I have problems when rendering my scene that include trees and grass. I can only place a limited number of trees and if i place more the whole software will close. For info, im using evermotion trees. Please help
Camby1298
Sounds like you're taking a RAM hit, if your vegetation aren't converted to Proxies, I would start there.
Eric
Check this out first... http://www.spot3d.com/vray/help/150SP1/vrayproxy_params.htm I'm also using evermotion trees in my scenes, and using proxies keeps render times manageable. If you're not familiar with proxies - you basically merge in your tree, then convert it to a Proxy. The geometry is removed from the scene and replaced with a proxy (low-quality preview geometry), and the actual model is only loaded at render time. Displacement grass is great too. I find it's much easier to create than something like the Scatter methods you'll also find on web tutorials. Edited April 28, 2011 by Eric
Azri Aris
Thx Camby, Eric, Ill try the proxies. Well I din know about it until now. By the way, what is the recommended hardware systems to be assembled for my computer ? I mean the size of ram, type of graphic card etc..... can you guys recommend me as i intend to learn 3ds max+vray seriously...
Dave Buchhofer
Not much else matters, just get MOAR ram, and as many processors as you can afford, either separate machines (most effective for backburner) or in single machines (most effective for distributed), general consensus is to go with the speediest gamer card you can afford for your workstation, and the cheapest thing that will get the job done for render nodes. check out Andy's posts at http://www.3datstech.com/ for hardware advice. As to speeding things up, in the tree materials, in the bitmaps, set filtering to 'NONE', also in the evermotion trees, look at the settings, they tend to include glossy leaves and materials set up to look decent at very close distances, a lot of the time you can disable the glossys and or turn down the subdivs for the reflection/refraction for background trees. Oh, and Adaptive DMC. learn it, love it, just set it to a lower threshold. also proxys are your friend, love them sweetly. Edited April 29, 2011 by Dave Buchhofer details.
