How to extract mapping coordinates from one object and apply to other?

I have a curved closed shape which I have extruded, which has a veneer texture. I need the grains of the veneer to follow the curve - can't do this thru the uvw modifier.

 

Now, if I take a arc and add a sweep modifier, it can generate mapping co-ordinates which work perfectly. The veneer grains follow the arc properly. Now is there any way I can extract the mapping co-ordinates from the arc and apply them to my other shape?
