itsallgonewronghere
My workflow has always been: 1)take architects drawings 2)modeled in ACAD 3)import model into MAX to render But I am trying to learn how to model correctly in MAX. My question is what is the most effective workflow / modeling practice for complex architecture (talking something like these Gehry buildings or Middle Eastern style skyscrapers). Is it using subdivision modeling or poly modeling?
ulp
I'm sure it varies with some people, but personally I start out with a combination of splines and geometry... All ends up into poly modelling in during the process... You'll find you learn faster and better ways of doing thing as go go along... even years later you still find new and better ways... Best just get to grips with splines and poly modelling as a starters, then you'll find your way along... watch some tutorials.
notamondayfan
Make sure everything is properly organised, if you layer, label and structure your files you will find it 100x easier in the long term. As for detail, only add detail where needed. You will be surprised at how little detail there will be on certain areas of the models.
Crazy Homeless Guy
Build a rectilinear model, apply a FFD Box, warp it into the shape you want. J/K by the way.
