aflack
I have a very large building roughly 500 meteres by 150 meters when I shoot 1,000,000 global illumination photons and save the photon map it creates a 20mb .pmap file which is great. The probalem is 1,000,000 photons is no-way near enough and 10,000,000 gives a much better result, how-ever when I try to save the photon map it creates the file as soon as it starts calculating it and then when it has finished calculating it it renders fine on the screen but it hasn't saved the file. I would assume the .pmap file would be about 200mb is there a file size limit, if so can I get around it some-how. Thanks for your help!
William Alexander
Did you run the MR message window during the photon map creation and or log to file and review for errors? If not did the message window pop? Usally what happens with MR related errors. Had that sort of thing happen once and MR tossed out an error statement as to why the file was not written or explaination of a processing problem with the data...... rgrds WDA
joske
you could increase the radius : it might enable you to use less photons with similar results
aflack
I get two errors the first says - RCGI 0.2 error 361011: \\hanger airside 4 mill.pmap: failed to write photon array data:: Insufficient system resources exist to complete the requested service. The second says - RCFG 0.2 warn 542002: angle between normal and geometry normal more than 90 degrees I am running a 2.8Ghz Intel Pentium 4 with 1.5Gb of Ram, the strange thing is that it renders it fine on the screen but it won't save it any ideas? Have no idea what the second means at all? Thanks for your help!
RyanSpaulding
Maybe try getting a screen capture program if all else fails
