Jonathan
Im creating some really complex meshes from photogrametric point cloud data and have reached a bit of a crossroads in terms of modelling strategy. Should all models be retopologised? What happens when the model is so organic and that level of detailed form is to be maintained? I realise that low poly models are far more useable yet should every nook and cranny be re-modelled (via graphite modelling tools) again? I'd be interested to hear your thoughts. Sketchrender
I know this not the answer you want but is there another way of describing your delima ...image may be? Phil
Jonathan
For example, Im testing the Agisoft Photoscan software and have a model of a local standing stone. To be of value, something like this needs to be detailed and precise. Attatched is a quick render in Mental Ray with default lighting...
Sketchrender
Sounds like a mudbox job, have you thought about it for the this type of work, seems to be made for it. http://www.3dtotal.com/tutorial/mudbox/12_retopologised_meshes/retopologised_meshes_01.php Might be of help. Bruce Hart
Have you played with Pro Optimize much?
Jonathan
Mudbox looks useful but Im not sure its quite right for this type of work. MeshLab is great yet I dont think it creates quads and WrapIt (a max plugin) seems very capable yet Max's topology and graphite tools look of similar quality. Perhaps I should just get my head into graphite? Checked out Pro Optimize but couldnt find anything related.
