How to free up RAM in Photoshop

Recommended Posts

I now have 2 gig of ram in my system, and Photoshop uses it up like its going out of style. Often I will be up to 1.7 gig and then when I close the drawing, it doesn't go down at all. I have to close the entire program for that memory to free up again, and then restart PS.

I've tried the purge command, but that doesnt do anything. Is there something else I can do?

Sadly photoshop likes to take up ram for everything and everything and not let it go. There are apps that free it up avail, as pointed out above. But nothing beats a good reboot really, and it gives you a chance to go get a refill on your drink.

Honestly, I've removed the program because it gave more problems than gain...

I haven't removed it yet but I don't use it for the same reasons. I find it much easier to just save what I'm doing, close Photoshop & then re-open. The free-ram program just seems to take too long. I think thats why the others were asking for good tips on how to use it.
