KRestrepo
Hello everyone! I have a quick question. When you draw a line in 3ds, and under the "Rendering" tab select "Enable in Renderer" and "Enable in Viewport," the line seems to only stay in the center of the renderable shape. Is there any way to have the line be on an edge of the new renderable shape? I have attached a picture of a line with a rectangular renderable shape. Fran
Hi Kiko, I looked at the renderable spline options and there isn't a way to offset. The Sweep modifier has offset options. It depends on what you are trying to do.
KRestrepo
Hi Fran, Thanks for looking into it. Yea, I have a few different work arounds for what I am trying to do (making mullions on a building)...but renderable lines would have been the quickest/easiest. The only issue is that the mullions sit half inside the building and half outside. There's a million ways to do it, just wanted to know if it was possible in the renderable line method. It seems a bit limiting that renderable lines are only centered on the drawn line.
notamondayfan
As Fran said, the Sweep modifier is for this kinda of thing, or you could use Loft too which would also work.
KRestrepo
Thank you for your response "notamondayfan." It does appear that that would be the method to do what I am asking. In the end, we decided to extrude and shell in order to get the effect we were looking for. Thanks a lot guys! Kiko
Fran
Sweep would definately not have been the choice to use for building mullions. Giving as much info as you can up front gives you better answers.
Dave Buckley
You wanted too offset the thickness from the original spline? Why not offset the line by half the thickness? Would give you exactly the same result?
zhopudey
I use aec railing to quickly generate vertical mullions. Just leave the top and lower rails off, and use only the posts.
