Jonathan
Recent technological advancements have meant the acquasition of precise 3d models, through photogrammetry, have never been easier (or perhaps less difficult!). Autodesk's brand new, mesh capable 'Project Photofly v2' marks a landmark in this arena. But what does this mean to the archviz business? Perhaps consumer grade capture products can claw back some work the visualisers way? Its common enough to photograph on site for reference and BG material but why not make a few more pictures and remove the need for surveying services etc with accurate 3d site scans? Dont stop there; what about all the custom 3d entourage such as vegetation, ground cover, sculptures and even people (the list goes on...) that could make work stand out from the typical and generic. I think its got huge potential... check out my own (fairly obscure!) ongoing research on the subject, www.tidalpoints.wordpress.com
JonRashid
Nice informative site. I'd be interested in seeing where this goes. We have used 2 kinect's in tandem to create a point clound of a room so far. When using combined data the results are very accurate.
Jonathan
Hi Jon, I'd be interested to see your results with the kinects. Got any links? Presumably thats in conjunction with MeshLab?
JonRashid
We are working on it in R&D at the moment. As soon as we have something I can release I will let you know. I am sure we can pick your brains as this was just an offshoot of our kinect development programme.
