Randy liddil
Is there a way to get Ambient Occlusion to render out as a "render element" in 3ds max? Right now I use this script below, but it would be really nice to just add this to the render elements or something so it just renders out with the Diffuse pass. http://www.scriptspot.com/3ds-max/scripts/vray-ambient-occlusion
erickdt
Add a VRay Extra Tex Map into your render elements. Set the map to a VRay dirt map and mess around with the settings until you get the desired result. You can then use this element as a Photoshop layer set to multiply (I usually have it at 20%-30% transparency) to get an AO effect. E
Wrender
It appears you're using Vray, but if not, Ramy Hanna has a nice technique I use quite a bit for Mental Ray (could possibly be adapted for Vray?) http://3dsmaxrendering.blogspot.com/2008/04/ambient-occlusion-pass-for-interior.html
fellazb
if you use Mental Ray you can use the mr shader element. In the shader slot in the parameters tab you can put an AO shader. Then you can instance copy that to the mat editor and tweak the settings.
carlotristan3d
I know it's an extra step, but I prefer to render AO separately-more control and I don't have to mess the other materials' settings.
