3D logo integration into interiors- 3DS Max and VRay

Hi all,

I recently got into 3D logos and their integration into interior scenes. The projects- an image of empty office and I add 3D objects such as logos and furniture.

What I do right now is- I import the image into the perspective viewport, I create a plane object and apply a Matte/Shadow Material to it(so that it is invisible when rendered), position the plane so that it matches the office wall where the logo would be and create the logo. Then position a light to cast shadows.

So far I have been getting some good results but that is only if I have to deal with one logo (if I add more logos to other walls shadows get unrealistic)

I was wondering what is the right approach for that type of work? Would a professional recreate the whole office in 3D first (just the shell- walls, floor and ceiling) following the actual image of the office and then position all the 3D objects( logos and furniture)?

I think that would provide more realistic lighting to the scene but wanted to know how would you go about it...

Please give me some tips.

Thanks and have a nice weekend.

Thanks for the reply, notamondayfan.

here's an image of what I have done. The logo "OMEGA" was not there. I added it in 3DS Max. But to do that I did not have to recreate that room's walls and the angles between them. I just place a plane object that matches the blue wall, placed the logo there and added a VRayLight.

Is that what professional would do?

What if I want to place other logos on other walls? I tried and since there was no 3D room the light was not casting shadows to the other logos. I tried making the logo's colour to be more "chrome"-ish but since there was no 3D room around it the reflections were taken from my environment (which is the image of the room).

Cheers.

Ahh OK I understand now.

What you have done will work in very basic situation, like you have here, but like you have already found out with a chrome finish, you need to be more precise.

If you know the dimensions of the room, then block in the room, and match the camera, lighting and materials.

If you want something quicker and less precise, I would try some things like mapping the photo to a plane behind the sign so you see the far wall and windows in the logo reflections.

You could also try some interior HDRIs (using HDRI images to cast light and reflections into the scene) that roughly match your photo, and see if they give desirable results.
