branskyj
Hi all, this is the problem: I import an image in 3DS Max viewport (drag it from Windows Explorer into perspective viewport) to serve as a reference image. I do my modelling and when I render (VRay) everything is perfectly sharp but the actual reference image which is slightly blurred. I checked in Preference/ Viewports/ Configure Driver. Both "Match Bitmap size as closely as possible" are checked. Just to clarify- the reference image is not applied onto a plane object via material, it's just viewable in the background. Appreciate any help guys.
Matt McDonald
It's blurred in your render? What is the resolution of the source image? What is the resolution of the rendered image? If the rendered image is much larger than the source image the source image will be up-sampled (badly) and can go soft.
branskyj
No, actually both images have the same resolution 1000 x 667.
Ricardo Eloy
I normally prefer using a bitmap applied to a plane to use as reference. I find it easier to control size and quality. In order to do that, I apply a DirectX material using the standardFX.fx shader and put the bitmap on the top diffuse slot (setting the specular color to black also helps). branskyj
Cheers for the tip, Rick Eloy. I actually found the solution- as soon as I changed the Image Sampler (from Adaptive DMC to Adaptive subdivision) the reference image sharpened to it's normal level. Cheers guy for the help. P.S. Now that I think of it it must have been the antialiasing filter. Edited June 30, 2011 by branskyj
