3ds max, viewport reference image is blured in render

Hi all, this is the problem:

I import an image in 3DS Max viewport (drag it from Windows Explorer into perspective viewport) to serve as a reference image. I do my modelling and when I render (VRay) everything is perfectly sharp but the actual reference image which is slightly blurred.

I checked in Preference/ Viewports/ Configure Driver. Both "Match Bitmap size as closely as possible" are checked.

Just to clarify- the reference image is not applied onto a plane object via material, it's just viewable in the background.

Appreciate any help guys.

I normally prefer using a bitmap applied to a plane to use as reference. I find it easier to control size and quality. In order to do that, I apply a DirectX material using the standardFX.fx shader and put the bitmap on the top diffuse slot (setting the specular color to black also helps).

Cheers for the tip, Rick Eloy.

I actually found the solution- as soon as I changed the Image Sampler (from Adaptive DMC to Adaptive subdivision) the reference image sharpened to it's normal level.

Cheers guy for the help.

P.S. Now that I think of it it must have been the antialiasing filter.
