Alyosha
Is there any other reason than the dynamic memory limit? Cause it doesnt give the usual "loading/unloading geometry" message that would cause vray only to be able to use a portion of computing power... just seems to use low values...around 1-10% often??? It's not like only 10% of scene is loaded into ram at any time, no matter what...? this is happening on an amd phenom 6 core node with win 7 and 8 gb of ram
avvid
Hi Alyosha. Sounds like you're using displacement maps. In the "Settings" tab of the render dialogue, increase the "Edge length" parameter. I had to raise it to 36 pixels once, and that did the trick.
Alyosha
Thank you, but I'm not using any displacement:-( It happens the same wether I use distributed rendering or backburner for the job...
avvid
Sorry, I mis-read the "loading/unloading geometry" bit, so of course you're not. Anyway, is this the only node it happens to? Are the other computers okay?
Alyosha
I only have 1 node here at home, so I can't really compare it
avvid
Sorry, but I think that unless someone else has the answer, this is going to take a lot more investigation (and questions). It sounds like this happens often, with different projects. Is that right? If so, can you see any difference in your render settings when it does and doesn't happen? If it always happens, then are you able to use 100% CPU power with any other programs (if you don't know, try to find a CPU stress test online)? Sorry if you've already thought of all this, but until I get a clearer idea of the problem, all I can do is try to narrow it down.
Alyosha
thank you for your help, I'll do as you suggest and try to narrow down the issue myself, was just wondering if anyone is aware of any issues that may cause this
avvid
Okay, if you find the solution, please post back.
