michaelidesm
Hi all. I am pretty sure people have done this before but i don't know how to smooth out a terrain shape which I created in archiecture (autodesk) and then imported into max. Is there something specific that needs to be done in architecture prior to importing it into max? Then what is the procedure to smooth it in max. I tried by converting it to mesh and then apply smooth modifier with no result, same with Turbo smooth modifier. Any ideas very welcome. PS if you want me i can attach both the dwg file and the max file with the imported shape.
janams
Hi it could be number of things causing this. I don't use ADT so I will have to guess. In your mesh select vertices option - select all (ctrl+a) - scroll down to Weld option and put approrpiate number and click weld. - this will help the terrain object to get rid off two vertices sharing one position. Then click the element mesh option and scroll down to smoothing groups. There check if all faces are sharing one smoothing group, ie one number. If not click clear all and then click on a number to give them all the same smoothing group... let me know if this helps, if not post the file... jana

michaelidesm
I have tried it and i think you have just saved my project. IT WORKS!!!! Exactly as i wanted it. Thank you very much. I am so happy. It was so simple to do it, but before, without knowing how to do it, emotions were soooooo different.
