Frosty
Six days until I present my Masters Arch Thesis and I wake up to a fried motherboard. My trusty dual Athlon over heated due to a bad fan(it was making noise earlier) and cooked itself. I dont know whats left of my computer, but the moral is definetly have a back-up plan and a method of hauling your butt out of the fire.
bigcahunak
Frosty You are lucky cause you still have all your data. Nevertheless beckup is very important, as it could have been your hard drive instead. Good luck.
Frosty
True. I've had enough hard drives die on me to not trust them at all. I have an external 4 drive RAID 5 for my back-ups then to DVD when the mission is complete
Richard McCarthy
Really sorry to hear that Frosty I have also have similar experience before, and ever since then I am incessanttly backing up everything I ever produce, or type, sites visited...LOL... Now I sometimes get problem of FINDING all these data created or viewed... sigh....... Another thing I would also suggest is to turn on yoru CPU overheat protection (temperature monitor and emergency shut down feature) from your motherboard setup. (If you have one, I think most modern motherboard has this function.. Gigabyte mobo certainly has it)
Tim Nelson
Similar experience, but mine was with my BIOS. I was trying to flash it so my video card would be fully compatible.... Followed instructions exactly from MSI, reboot, and then blank screen. Nothing I could do to fix it myself. I have been waiting for almost a week for them to send me a new bios chip. I had to take my hd to a computer store and have them retrieve the files I needed so I could work on them on another computer till I get mine fixed. I think MSI has good products, but they shouldn't be telling people how to flash the bios when they know it rarely works. And their customer service really bites. But as long as this new bios chip works and everything is back to normal, then I will be happy.
