Billabong
I have a vray light as a mesh object, my problem is the light just looks flat. Basically it looks like a white rectangle. Im trying to get it to match the wall lights in the reference image attached. I did try putting a falloff map in the texture slot of the vray light, but that just turned it black, any suggestions on a better way to give it more depth and not look flat. Thanks so much any help The small cropped image is my render and the large image is the reference. -B Edited July 20, 2011 by Billabong
Billabong
Never mind. I figured it out. I just unticked Replace mesh with light and made the light invisible. I then made a vray light mat, with a falloff, for the lamp cover. Sorry for the Inconvenience -B
aristocratic3d
Well! did you also figure how to remove that noise around the light?
Billabong
Sorry, Im a little confused as to whether your making a joke or being serious. My render settings are very low at the moment for test renders.
aristocratic3d
I am serious. Now I guess its working that good because your camera is far away of that object, you are using dirty textures already, or you have the low render setup but higher light setup. May be I am wrong. I was serious man. this is not place for joking. Because I have been failed to achieve a clear and noiseless render that way. you are doing a great job. Billabong
I apologize, Dahka. In all honesty, I still havent achieved what I want to. My light still looks flat. I have tried making a glass material and putting my light inside of it, putting it on the outside, i just cant figure out what to do here. If you have any suggestions, I am open to them. Thanks -B
aristocratic3d
Hello, My name is not dahka. its my location that is called "Dhaka". I am Abdullah al-baki. I went through a test again after I have seen your post here. I have noticed. a nice glass material outside of what you have created looks good for me. But that is a different type of light. BTW, I have achieved the good light material following your suggestion. but the problem was the noise around the light what I really do not want. increasing the light subdivision work there though. Dont forget to post here if you find better solution. I am hoping any morderator to take of our problem. -AB
Billabong
I am so sorry about that Abdullah, It was pretty late here when I responded. As you can see, Im still not getting great results. It just still looks flat. Here is what I have setup. I made two Vray lights and made them both mesh objects. I put one inside the lamp and its only affecting the the lamp, I then put another one on the outside of the lamp and had it affect everything else. I think im getting close, but still not there. I am really stumped here. -B
