Noise
Hi We have forwarded some hi-res tifs to a client in CMYK mode for commercial printing but they appear cloudy and desaturated on his screen - he is Mac based. Has anyone encountered this before ? The RGB files of the same images are fine. I have never experienced this before and is a bit of a pain. thanks N
ronll
I long ago quit trying to send out cmyk files. I would suggest that you send the client the rgb file and a small print from your own printer that looks right and then let their commercial printing service do the conversion to match your proof. rgb to cmyk conversion is an art form in itself and can take way more of your time than you bargained for. Noise
Thats interesting Ron, we used to send out prints with each project however its very expensive so we will have to find another solution. Thanks for your input though.
ronll
Likewise I haven't sent out prints in a long time, but I would if someone insisted on converting to cmyk. Otherwise if the conversion looks like crap, they'll blame your image. Seems like most images get used on screen these days, with very little printing. But even a little 4"x 6" print from my office photo printer will look better than most cmyk conversions. cmyk is a very limited palette compared to rgb. But of course it is still necessary for traditional printing in magazines or brochures.
